Spike TV debuted their much-anticipated new show on storage unit auctions this past week. Auction Hunters airs Tuesdays at 10pm Eastern /9pm Central and features the experiences of “two of the best prospectors in the business,” Clinton Jones and Allen Haff.
I was looking forward to this show with popcorn and beer in hand on the evening of the permier. In a nutshell, the experiences exhibited in the show were no different than what you would encounter by attending any average storage unit auction in the United States. There was your usual assortment of colorful people and familiar surroundings. The costs and contents of the storage lockers were generally what you can expect, perhaps with the exception of an antique cash register found in one of the units.
I felt like the stars of the show were probably pushed a little to create overly dramatic situations where none really existed. Such is Reality TV, I suppose. However, Storage Auctions are exciting enough as-is and I thought the show would have benefited from a format more along the lines of a documentary. Touching on all aspects of the storage auction experience would be more interesting television, in my opinion.
That said, I’ll be tuned in next week…
